SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 7

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana on its tenth
anniversary and to recognize its outstanding performance and the pride and honor
brought to the Asian-American community.
WHEREAS, the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana was established in April
2007 as the networking and advocacy entity for locally owned Asian-American businesses
that were interrupted, displaced, and rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina: and
WHEREAS, the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana, founded by business
owner, Tina Nguyen Owen, with the support and collaboration of cofounders, Mr. Quan
Huynh, Mr. Quang Nguyen, and Ms. Lucy Chun; and
WHEREAS, the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana strives to increase
business friendly legislation in all levels of government and assist its members to run their
business more effectively; and
WHEREAS, the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana recognizes that the
Asian-American population in Louisiana is 84,000 people and growing; and
WHEREAS, Tina Owen, its founder, recognizes the growing number of
Asian-owned businesses in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the number of Asian owned businesses is 11,000 and continually
growing; and
WHEREAS, the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana's focus is connecting
business owners to share ideas and resources, resulting in numerous networking events
sponsored by the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana for its members and potential
members; and
WHEREAS, the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana facilitates economic ties
between Asian and non-Asian businesses while promoting its members' businesses to the
general public; and

WHEREAS, the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana's founding members
recognize that Asian buying power in Louisiana is $3 billion and growing; and
WHEREAS, the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana established its First
Annual Gala in 2008 with the purpose of recognizing and honoring its business leaders with
awards in the following categories: Asian Business Excellence Award, Asian Business
Leader Award, and Emerging Asian Business of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana participated in numerous
networking events jointly with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the New Orleans
Regional Black Chamber; and
WHEREAS, in celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Asian Chamber of Commerce
of Louisiana continues to expand its founders' vision of connecting and promoting Asian
owned businesses locally, statewide, and globally.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana on
its tenth anniversary and does hereby recognize its outstanding performance and the pride
and honor brought to the Asian-American community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana.
