[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 292 Original 2017 Regular Session DeVillier Abstract: Provides relative to the preservation of certain monuments, memorials, and artifacts. Present constitution recognizes the right of the people to preserve, foster, and promote their respective historic linguistic and cultural origins. Proposed constitutional amendment provides that this right prohibits the state and its political subdivisions from destroying, dismantling, removing, moving, storing, eliminating, or hiding historic monuments, memorials, structures, buildings, statues, images, sites, or plaques and things and vestiges thereof, any of which relate and pertain to the American Revolution and those who rendered aid and comfort to the cause of the American Revolution and those who served in the American Revolution and all persons, soldiers, sailors, and officers of any and all wars of the U. S. and all wars by and against the U.S. and those wars occurring in the U.S. This right shall also prohibit the conduct and actions described above as to American presidents, founding citizens, those persons who rendered verified assistance in the formation of the U.S. Constitution, and those citizens who rendered aid and assistance and support in the wars described in proposed constitutional amendment. Provides for submission of the proposed amendment to the voters at the statewide election to be held Oct. 14, 2017. (Amends Const. Art. XII, ยง4)
