PROBATION: Increases the maximum amount of parole supervision fees and provides
relative to the use of the funds
DIGEST
Present law authorizes the committee on parole to impose certain conditions or requirements
on a person who is released on parole including the requirement that the person pay a fee to
the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections in an amount not to exceed $63, based upon the
offender's ability to pay as determined by the committee on parole.
Proposed law increases the maximum amount of the fee from $63 to $100, and further
provides that only those persons released on parole who are employed as determined by the
Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, division of probation and parole, must pay the fee.
Proposed law provides that the revenue generated from supervision fees shall be used for the
payment of salaries of the employees of the division of probation and parole.
Proposed law provides that beginning on the effective date of the proposed law and each year
thereafter, the funds received from the proposed increase in the amount of supervision fees
will be dedicated to the salaries of adult probation and parole officers without the supplanting
of any budget funds used for those purposes.
