JUDGES/SUPREME COURT: Creates two additional supreme court districts
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 13:101(introductory paragraph) and (4) and (5), relative to the
3 supreme court; to provide relative to districts for the election of supreme court
4 justices; to create two additional districts; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 13:101(introductory paragraph) and (4) and (5) are hereby amended
7and reenacted to read as follows:
8 ยง101. Supreme court district; justices
9 The state shall be divided into seven nine supreme court districts. The
10 supreme court shall be composed of one justice elected from each of the seven nine
11 districts as set forth below:

13 (4)(a) District 4-A is composed of Bienville Parish; Caldwell Parish;
14 Catahoula Parish; Claiborne Parish; Concordia Parish; East Carroll Parish; Franklin
15 Parish; Grant Parish; Jackson Parish; LaSalle Parish; Lincoln Parish; Madison
16 Parish; Precincts 1, 2, 3, 5, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32,
17 33, and 34 of Morehouse Parish; Precincts 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-4A, 1-5, 2-1, 2-2, 2-3,
18 4-1, 4-2, 5-1, 5-2, 5-3, 5-4, 5-5, 5-6, 5-7, 5-8, 5-9, 5-10, 5-11, 5-12, 5-13, 5-14, 5-15,

13 (b) District 5-B is composed of East Baton Rouge Parish.

Abstract: Provides two additional supreme court districts.
Present law provides for seven supreme court districts and provides that one justice shall be
elected from each of the seven districts.
Proposed law increases the number of supreme court districts from seven to nine and
provides for the composition of those additional districts.
