Abstract: Exempts firefighters issued a special active full-time professional or retired firefighter
license plate from the motor vehicle registration license fee or tax.
Present law provides for an annual motor vehicle registration license fee or tax on all private
passenger vehicles.
Present law further provides for the issuance of a special firefighters license plate for active and
retired firefighters. Present law requires firefighters issued the plate to pay a one-time fee of $25 in
addition to the annual motor vehicle registration license fee or tax.
Proposed law allows those firefighters issued a special firefighters license plate pursuant to present
law and who have served for 20 or more years to be exempt from the annual motor vehicle
registration license fee or tax.
Proposed law clarifies that proposed law does not exempt any firefighter receiving a specialty license
plate from the initial one-time fee in present law.
Proposed law provides for the issuance of a lifetime specialty firefighters license plate to those
firefighters who have served for 20 or more years.
