HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 82
BY REPRESENTATIVES DWIGHT AND HILL AND SENATOR JOHN SMITH
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the South Beauregard High School Golden Knights boys' baseball team upon
winning the 2017 Class 3A state championship.
WHEREAS, the 2017 baseball season concluded with the South Beauregard High
School Golden Knights baseball team making its second trip to the state championship game
and, in doing so, earned its first state championship by any boys program in the schools
history; and
WHEREAS, the Golden Knights completed an outstanding 2017 season with a win
over the Iowa High School Yellow Jackets to claim the Class 3A state championship at
McMurry Park in Sulphur, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the team put together a nearly flawless game with a score of ten to zero
in just six innings; and
WHEREAS, the South Beauregard baseball team scored in each of the first four
innings to take an eight to zero lead; and
WHEREAS, pitcher Logan Savoy was named the game's Most Outstanding Player
after pitching a four hitter while striking out four, and adding an RBI single on offense; and
WHEREAS, the Golden Knights were powered to a win by Chance Clark who had
two hits, drove in two runs, and scored twice; Jansen Fontenot who doubled twice and scored
three runs; and Hayden Gunter who had three hits and drove in three runs; and
WHEREAS, Chance Clark, Jansen Fontenot, Hayden Gunter, and Logan Savoy led
an eleven-man senior class that brought the Golden Knights to new heights; and
WHEREAS, every member of the team performed at the highest level of excellence,
and contributed to the remarkable success of the school's baseball program; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved without
the leadership, dedication, and instruction of head coach Jeremy Deville and the assistant
coaches who also played vital roles in player development; and
WHEREAS, the South Beauregard High School Golden Knights baseball team
upholds the values and winning tradition of South Beauregard High School and makes all
of Beauregard Parish and South Beauregard High School students, alumni, and fans proud;
and
WHEREAS, the Legislature of Louisiana wishes to recognize the well-deserved title
which the South Beauregard High School Golden Knights baseball team earned, to commend
the team for the ability they displayed, particularly at the most difficult level of competition,
and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the team members and the coaching
staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown while achieving such a high honor
for their school.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the South Beauregard High School Golden Knights baseball team for winning the
2017 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A state baseball championship;
does hereby congratulate the Knights for a truly spectacular season; and does hereby
recognize their outstanding performance and distinguished pride and honor that they have
brought to their school and community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the head coach of the South Beauregard High School Golden Knights baseball team,
Jeremy Deville.
