HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 16

A RESOLUTION
To commend Elizabeth Hughes upon being named one of the top youth volunteers in the
state of Louisiana for the year of 2017 in the twenty-second annual Prudential Spirit
of Community Awards.
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hughes, an esteemed resident of Coushatta, Louisiana, and
an eighth grade student at Red River Junior High School, has achieved national recognition
for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2017 Distinguished Finalist Prudential Spirit
of Community Award; and
WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership
with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers
across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their
communities; and
WHEREAS, more than thirty-one thousand young people across the country
participated in the twenty-second annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program;
and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hughes earned this extraordinary award by giving generously
of her time and energy to various service activities to support the senior citizens in her
community including helping to build wheelchair ramps, volunteering at a local nursing
home, and visiting the homes of local senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend upon the dedication of young individuals
like Elizabeth Hughes who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Elizabeth Hughes of Coushatta, Louisiana,

upon receiving a 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; does hereby recognize her
outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit; and does
hereby extend best wishes for her continued success and happiness in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Elizabeth Hughes.
