1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 32:53(A)(3), relative to motor vehicles; to provide relative to
3 display of a motor vehicle license plate; to prohibit coverings and devices from
4 obstructing a motor vehicle license plate; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 32:53(A)(3) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 ยง53. Proper equipment required on vehicles; display of plate

9 (3) Every permanent registration license plate shall at all times be securely
10 fastened to the vehicle to which it is assigned, so as to prevent the plate from
11 swinging, and at a height not less than twelve inches from the ground, measuring
12 from the bottom of such plate, in a place and position to be clearly visible, and shall
13 be maintained free from foreign materials and in a condition to be clearly legible.
14 Unless authorized by the commissioner, a person shall not apply a covering or
15 any substance to the license plate or use an electronic device or electrochromatic
16 film that obscures from any angle the numbers, characters, year registration
17 sticker, or name of the jurisdiction issuing the plate.
