SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 101

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend and congratulate posthumously C.A. Core on being named to the 2017
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, C.A. Core is remembered as a legend in Louisiana basketball history;
and
WHEREAS, a native of Noblesville, Indiana, he made a name for himself as the most
decorated player in Southeastern Louisiana University basketball history and is the only
player who holds the honor of having had his number thirty-four team jersey retired and
hung from the rafters of the University Center; and
WHEREAS, during his time as an SLU Lion, C.A. Core set records for points,
scoring average, rebounds, rebounding average, field goals made, free throws made, and his
22.3 points per game during the 1964-1965 season remains the highest single-season scoring
average in school history; and
WHEREAS, his time as an SLU Lion also earned him a double-double rebounding
average every season, highlighted by a single-season school record of 18.5 rebounds per
contest during his senior year, and he can claim three of the top four averages in school
history; and
WHEREAS, he was recognized numerous times for his prowess on the basketball
court, including being the only National Collegiate Athletic Association All-American
selection in SLU history, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American
selection both his junior and senior year, a four-time All-Gulf States Conference selection,
and he received the Associated Press All-American accolades his junior year; and
WHEREAS, C.A. Core has been inducted into the Hamilton County Basketball Hall
of Fame in Indiana, and the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, upon graduating from college, he became a teacher and coach in St.
Tammany Parish, Louisiana, until his death at the age of forty-one; and
WHEREAS, the successful basketball career of C.A. Core has rightly earned him a
place among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate posthumously C.A. Core on being named to the 2017 Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of C.A. Core.
