2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 107 BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATI VE FRANKLIN A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Eddie Joseph Kennison III on being named to the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talents worthy of being named to the hall of fame; and WHEREAS, Eddie Kennison was born on January 20, 1973, and attended Washington-Marion High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he was a star on both the football and track teams; and WHEREAS, after graduation, he attended Louisiana State University where he became a noted sprinter on the track team, earning six All-America selections, lead the 4x100-meter relay team to the 1994 National Collegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Championship, and qualified for the championships in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and the 200-meter relays; and WHEREAS, Eddie Kennison also excelled on the gridiron at LSU as an outstanding receiver and premier kickoff and punt returner, including a 100-yard punt return for a touchdown against Mississippi State in 1994 and a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in LSU's win over Michigan State in the Independence Bowl in 1995; and WHEREAS, upon graduating from college, he was a first-round National Football League draft pick for the St. Louis Rams and during his first season, finished second in yards and receptions for rookies and led the rookie wide receiver class; and WHEREAS, in 1999, Eddie Kennison was traded to the New Orleans Saints for a second-round draft pick and in 2000 he was traded to the Chicago Bears, where he finished second on the team in receiving years and tied for the team lead in receptions; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 107 ENROLLED WHEREAS, he signed a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos in 2001, but retired later that year, only to resurface from retirement to play for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2002 to 2006, and a second stint with the St. Louis Rams before finally retiring with the Kansas City Chiefs on July 19, 2010; and WHEREAS, the successful track and football career of Eddie Joseph Kennison III has rightly earned him a place among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Eddie Joseph Kennison III on being named to the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Eddie Joseph Kennison III.
