2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 11 BY SENATOR MORRISH AND REPRESENTATIVE GUINN A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To designate October as Eczema Awareness Month in Louisiana. WHEREAS, eczema is a very common condition that causes the skin to be red, itchy, dry, and scaly, and more than thirty million Americans have some form of it; and WHEREAS, at its most severe, eczema can cause serious health problems, profoundly affect quality of life, and interfere with normal, everyday activities; and WHEREAS, different types of eczema include atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, dyshidrotic eczema, hand eczema, neurodermatitis, nummular eczema, and stasis dermatitis; and WHEREAS, all types of eczema cause itching and redness, but some may also cause the skin to blister, weep, or peel; and WHEREAS, the most common type, which can also be severe and long-lasting, is atopic dermatitis; and WHEREAS, eczema generally appears in the first six months to five years of a child's life and babies usually develop it on their face, especially the cheeks and chin, but it can appear anywhere on the body and symptoms may be different from one child to the next; and WHEREAS, the pain and constant itch of eczema can distress children and disturb their sleep, interfere with school, cause low self-esteem, make them feel self-conscious about their appearance, and avoid social situations; and WHEREAS, each individual's eczema can be triggered by unique environmental factors, which may appear when the body reacts to environmental elements that would normally be harmless; and WHEREAS, Eczema Awareness Month serves as an opportunity to focus attention on eczema and its symptoms, triggers, and treatments.
