2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 113 BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATI VE STAGNI A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend and congratulate Edward Earl Reed Jr. on being named to the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talent worthy of being named to the hall of fame; and WHEREAS, the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes Edward Earl Reed Jr.; and WHEREAS, he was born on September 11, 1978, in St. Rose, Louisiana, and attended Destrehan High School where he excelled on the Wildcat track and football teams, including being an all-state selection at defensive back and as a kick returner; and WHEREAS, he attended the University of Miami, where he was a standout defensive back and played on the 2001 Hurricane team that won the 2001 National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship; and WHEREAS, after his college career, he was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens, where in his twelve years on the team, he holds the records for the most career interceptions, most career interception return yards, most career interception return touchdowns, most passes defended, and most interception-return yards in a single game, and was voted to the Pro Bowl three times; and WHEREAS, he was instrumental in the Ravens' 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 24, 2013; and WHEREAS, in 2013 he became a free agent and briefly joined the Houston Texans and the New York Jets before retiring from professional football on May 7, 2015; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 113 ENROLLED WHEREAS, during his successful career he racked up NFL records for the longest interception return at 107 yards, the most interception return yards, tied for the most playoff career interceptions, tied for the most career blocked punts returned for touchdowns, and was the first person in National Football League history to return an interception, punt, blocked punt, and fumble for a touchdown; and WHEREAS, the outstanding football career of Edward Earl Reed Jr. has rightly earned him a place among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Edward Earl Reed Jr. on being named to the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
