2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 14 BY SENATOR BOUDREAUX AND REPRESENTATI VE PIERRE A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend and congratulate the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights boys' basketball team on winning the 2017 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division IV state championship. WHEREAS, the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights defeated the Southern Lab Kittens by a score of 52-43 to win the Class 1A Division IV state championship; and WHEREAS, the Knights ended the season with an impressive overall record of 29-5 and were undefeated in district play with a record of 14-0; and WHEREAS, topnotch performances from up and down the lineup contributed to the team's triumphant win, and junior Greg Williams' twenty-four points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and five steals were rewarded with the much-deserved designation of Most Valuable Player; and WHEREAS, the Knights held the Kittens to only nineteen points in the second half and fifteen turnovers, and they utilized a brutal 1-3-1 zone defense forcing Southern Lab to attempt shots from the outside; and WHEREAS, the Kittens missed all ten of their shots from the three-point line and the Knights took advantage; and WHEREAS, the distinguished team performance of the entire Lafayette Christian Academy Knights basketball team throughout the regular season and the postseason has earned them the Division IV state championship title; and WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills of head coach, Byron Starks, and assistant coaches, Christopher Poullard, Josiah Broussard, Joshua Comeaux, and Christopher Cane, as well as all of the other individuals who have contributed to the success of the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights basketball program. Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 14 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate each of the coaches, managers, and the extraordinary young men of the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights on their much deserved championship title which was earned through teamwork, determination, and dedication to the sport of basketball.
