2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 15 BY SENATORS PEACOCK, ALARIO, ALLAIN, APPEL, BARROW, BISHOP, BOUDREAUX, CARTER, CHABERT, CLAITOR, COLOMB, CORTEZ, DONAHUE, ERDEY, FANNIN, GATTI, HEWITT, JOHNS, LAFLEUR, LAMBERT, LONG, LUNEAU, MARTINY, MILKOVICH, MILLS, MIZELL, MORRELL, MORRISH, PERRY, PETERSON, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE AND REPRESENTATIVES CARMODY, HORTON AND SEAB AUGH A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the commanders, officers, and airmen of Barksdale Air Force Base upon receipt of the annual Commander in Chief Award for Installation Excellence from the United States Department of Defense. WHEREAS, the personnel of Barksdale Air Force Base have been recognized for outstanding innovations in maintaining combat readiness and for exemplary support of military missions assigned by the Department of Defense; and WHEREAS, the selection process for the prize involved intense scrutiny by a panel of command senior leaders from a variety of career fields who inspected each military installation and conducted detailed evaluations of all facets of air base ecology, including working environments, residential housing conditions, and recreational opportunities; and WHEREAS, along with its extraordinary airmen, eight of Barksdale's units were nominated for "special recognition" and will compete for a separate award; these readiness units include the Second Comptroller Squadron, Second Continuous Process Improvement Team, Second Force Support Squadron, Second Installation Deployment Office, Second Maintenance Group, Second Operations Support Squadron, Aircrew Flight Equipment Team, Second Public Affairs, and Second Readiness and Emergency Management Fleet; and WHEREAS, in conclusion, the selection panel expressed its admiration for the airmen at Barksdale for their spirit, their resolve, their overall service performance, and their involvement in the local community; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 15 ENROLLED WHEREAS, since the dedication of Barksdale Field in 1933 and its establishment as an air force base of operations in February 1948, Barksdale airmen and their families have been an integral part of the fabric of the Shreveport-Bossier community; through mutual respect and support, Barksdale and Shreveport-Bossier have grown stronger and better throughout the years; and WHEREAS, for a job well done, Barksdale Air Force Base will receive an incentive award of seven hundred thousand dollars to invest in personnel enrichment projects, as well as a commemorative commander in chief award trophy and flag accompanied by a congratulatory letter from President Donald Trump; and WHEREAS, Barksdale Air Force Base remains a steadfast, combat-ready military organization headquartered in Northwestern Louisiana which safeguards American interests at home and throughout the world with its capacity for strategic deterrence and global combat. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the commanding officers, airmen, and personnel of Barksdale Air Force Base upon receipt of the annual Commander in Chief Award for Installation Excellence presented by the United States Department of Defense. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby congratulate Barksdale Air Force Base on its exemplary history of military air defense and its positive contributions to the Bossier/Caddo community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Colonel Ty W. Neuman, commander, Second Bombardment Wing and Lieutenant Colonel William "Bill" Fish, director of staff, Second Bombardment Wing.
