2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 17 BY SENATOR HEWITT AND REPRESENTATIVE CROMER A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the Slidell Republican Women's Club on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary as a valuable asset in supporting and being committed to the Republican party and its candidates. WHEREAS, the Slidell Republican Women's Club was founded in 1967 and has been an active and effective participant in the political affairs of Slidell, St. Tammany Parish, and the state of Louisiana for the past fifty years; and WHEREAS, since the club's formation, a primary purpose has been to maintain a political headquarters for the party, which is an important component in keeping the party a viable entity in Slidell; and WHEREAS, the women of the club are an essential volunteer unit, mailing out flyers, handing out information on issues and candidates, ringing door bells, and making telephone calls on behalf of candidates; and WHEREAS, the Slidell club is a chartered unit of the Louisiana Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women and has fostered widespread cooperation in all phases of Republican involvement in the political process; and WHEREAS, over the years many members of the Slidell Republican Women's Club have been board members at the city, parish, and state level thus contributing to the leadership of each of these organizations; and WHEREAS, the Slidell club participates in the Mamie Eisenhower program, named in honor of the wife of World War II hero and 1950s era president, Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower, by handing out dictionaries in the public schools and donating books to local libraries; and WHEREAS, a special focus for the Slidell Republican Women's Club is interacting with Republican teen groups and each year the club awards two college scholarships through the Pearl Williams and Cecilia Drennan Memorial Scholarship program; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 17 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the scholarship program is open to high school senior girls from the Slidell and Pearl River area who meet the educationally rigorous criteria for the awarding of the scholarships; and WHEREAS, annually the Slidell club recognizes an outstanding woman of the Slidell area in the awarding of the Pearl Williams Superior Leadership Award, the criteria of which is lifelong achievements in leadership within the community of Slidell; and WHEREAS, the Slidell club presents each year the "Volunteer of the Year" award recognizing the member that for the previous year has provided exceptional voluntary service to the club, its members, and its mission to serve the Republican party of Slidell; and WHEREAS, the Slidell Republican Women's Club number of members continues to grow reflecting the club's policy of offering opportunities for full participation to those who are willing to commit their time, effort, and talents to advancing the club's Republican objectives; and WHEREAS, the Slidell Republican Women's Club has, for fifty years, been a valuable participant in the political landscape of its city by standing firmly for the principles dear to Republicans and being a credit to the community of Slidell through their many and varied activities of service as volunteers. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Slidell Republican Women's Club on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary as a valuable asset in supporting and being committed to the Republican party and its candidates. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the president of the Slidell Republican Women's Club for 2017, Tiffany Parker, on behalf of her members and her organization.
