2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 55 BY SENATORS COLOMB, BARROW, HEWITT, MIZELL AND PETERSON AND REPRESENTATIVES AMEDEE, CARPENTER, DAVIS, EMERSON, HILFERTY, HILL, HODGES, HORTON, NANCY LANDRY, MARCELLE, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THOMAS AND WHITE A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Mackenzie Kay Andrews upon her receipt of a 2017 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School Women of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. WHEREAS, daughter of Jamie Andrews of Gonzales, Mackenzie Kay Andrews attends East Ascension High School; and WHEREAS, at East Ascension High, Mackenzie has participated in many extracurricular activities including: reporter of the National Honor Society, president of the Beta Club and Thespian Club, captain of Yell Leader, Senior Mentor, parliamentarian of the Student Council, chairman of Linking Lives, a member of Advanced Choir and lettered in both varsity volleyball and softball; and WHEREAS, over the course of her high school career, Mackenzie has received many awards and honors including being named Homecoming Queen for the 2016 football year, being selected as an Elks Most Valuable Student State Finalist and a Red Hot Counselor at Broyhill Leadership Conference, placing first in the Capital Area Human Services PSA contest and in the VFW's Voice of Democracy essay contest, and twice being named the state champion of the Louisiana Beta Club Group Talent competition; and WHEREAS, Mackenzie also starred and directed many play productions at her high school including The Help, Cinderella, Hairspray, and The Lion King; and WHEREAS, in her local community, Mackenzie found a way to give back using the skills she learned in participating in numerous extracurricular activities at East Ascension High, volunteering on projects with Habitat for Humanity, tutoring of peers, participating in canned food drives, assisting in the financing of a school building in Uganda, and volunteering throughout the local community in relief efforts during the recent historic flood Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 55 ENROLLED of 2016; and WHEREAS, despite being involved with these activities and many others, Mackenzie is currently ranked second in her senior class with a grade point average of 4.667 and has been awarded the title of Student of the Year; and WHEREAS, Mackenzie will be attending Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in the fall of 2017, having earned twenty-seven hours of college credit through the dual enrollment and Advanced Placement courses and plans to major in performing arts with the career goal of being a working actress; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are committed to community service to better society as a whole; and WHEREAS, for 2017, there are four categories for the Women of Excellence Awards: College Women of Excellence, High School Women of Excellence, Louisiana Hero of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2017 Women of Excellence Awards are being recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, May 9, 2017; and WHEREAS, Mackenzie has been named a recipient of a 2017 Women of Excellence Award in the category of High School Women of Excellence and is also a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and community service; and WHEREAS, Mackenzie merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Mackenzie upon receipt of a 2017 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 55 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Mackenzie Kay Andrews upon receipt of a 2017 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School Women of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
