2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 85 BY SENATORS WALSWORTH AND FANNIN AND REPRESENTATIVE HOFFMANN A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Alton Ralph "Red" Sims on his many years of public service. WHEREAS, Alton Ralph "Red" Sims, a lifelong resident of Calhoun, Louisiana, was born on August 26, 1920, and has devoted his long and stellar career fighting to provide the best education possible for his community; and WHEREAS, his love for children and passion for education led him to decide early in life to become a teacher, and for many years he instilled in his students the values of discipline, hard work, and dedication; and WHEREAS, over the arc of his long career, he would also be a coach and a principal, instilling all the same values to countless children in Ouachita Parish, who affectionately remember Mr. Sims; and WHEREAS, in 1987, he ran to represent the people of District C on the Ouachita Parish School Board and he has since served a remarkable eight consecutive terms on that board; and WHEREAS, during his thirty-year tenure, he has been instrumental in facilitating the renovation of every school in the Ouachita Parish school system, played a vital part in passing several bond issues, oversaw the construction of nine new schools in the past seventeen years, and fought to insure that the children received the highest quality education possible; and WHEREAS, he was also instrumental in the construction of the West Ouachita High School football stadium, and because of his unwavering dedication to the project and his passionate service to the people of his community, the school board unanimously voted in 2004, to name the stadium the A.R. "Red" Sims Stadium in his honor; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 85 ENROLLED WHEREAS, his lifetime of achievements and many years of dedicated service to enhancing the lives of the people of Ouachita Parish and the state have made Alton Ralph "Red" Sims a pillar of the community and a role model to be followed. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Alton Ralph "Red" Sims on his many years of public service.
