SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 95

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Mary Alice Rountree on the occasion of her retirement
from the Caddo Council on Aging.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Mary Alice Rountree for her many years of exemplary public service to the
3 parish of Caddo and for her continued commitment to the care of its elderly citizens
4 and to congratulate her upon the occasion of her retirement from the Caddo Council
5 on Aging.
6 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes Mary
7 Alice Rountree for the dedicated service she has provided to the Area Agency on Aging of
8 Caddo Council on Aging, Inc. (CCOA), a nonprofit agency that has served the needs of
9 seniors and their caregivers in Caddo Parish since 1972; and
10 WHEREAS, Mary Alice Rountree has served for more than twenty-five years in the
11 specialties of social work, marketing, and public affairs while developing programs for
12 nonprofit organizations; and 
13 WHEREAS, Mrs. Rountree began her employment with the agency in July 1997, as
14 director of Social Services and later was promoted to director of Outreach Services; then in
15 1999, she advanced to the position of executive director; and
16 WHEREAS, Mary Alice Rountree has secured grants to promote outreach, nutrition,
17 and transportation programs under the umbrella of the agency; and 
18 WHEREAS, during her tenure at the Caddo Council on Aging, Mary Alice Rountree

1 has been influential in the acquisition of numerous funding resources, services, and programs
2 that are beneficial to seniors; and
3 WHEREAS, these programs include the continued development of Meals on Wheels
4 nutrition services, in-home assistance services, ombudsman, legal services, and senior
5 centers; and
6 WHEREAS, CCOA also supports a thriving Foster Grandparent program that offers
7 senior adults, aged fifty-five years and older, an opportunity to contribute to their community
8 as mentors, tutors, and caregivers for children with special needs through a network of
9 various local agencies; and
10 WHEREAS, Mary Alice is best known for her "can do" attitude, and her motto is "if
11 Caddo Council on Aging does not provide the service, we will direct you to an agency that
12 does"; and
13 WHEREAS, while serving on the council, Mrs. Rountree acts as an advocate for
14 senior citizens to maintain their independence and quality of life while remaining in their
15 home environment; and
16 WHEREAS, her diligence has brought to fruition extensive improvements in the
17 delivery of services affecting the health and welfare of an aging population with special
18 emphasis on assistance to lower-income individuals; and
19 WHEREAS, Mary Alice is married to Douglas Rountree and their union of forty-six
20 years has been blessed with two children, Catherine and Miller; six grandchildren, and a host
21 of extended family and friends, all of whom she holds dear to her heart; and 
22 WHEREAS, as an enthusiastic pacesetter, Mary Alice Rountree exemplifies all the
23 finest qualities of a proficient, parochial, community leader who continuously pursues the
24 best interests of those she serves.
25 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
26 commend Mary Alice Rountree upon her years of public service and on the occasion of her
27 retirement from the Caddo Council on Aging on July 7, 2017.
28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby wish
29 every success for Mrs. Rountree in all her future endeavors.
30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
