SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 114

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Edna Karr High School girls outdoor track & field
team for winning the 2017 Class 4A state championship and recognizes Coach Tonya Allen
for her achievements.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Edna Karr High School girls outdoor track & field team on winning the
3 2017 Class 4A state championship and recognize Coach Tonya Allen for her
4 achievements.
5 WHEREAS, at the state meet, Rikianne Patterson placed second in the 100 meter
6 dash and in the long jump, Taylor Harris placed first in the 400 meter dash and in the 800
7 meter run, Alacia Myles placed second in the high jump, and the 4x200 meter relay team and
8 the 4x400 meter relay team each won their events; and
9 WHEREAS, the team was coached by Tonya Allen, a 1991 graduate of Seton
10 Academy in New Orleans, who attended Louisiana State University where she was a
11 member of the women's track team graduating in 1997 and, in 2006, began at Edna Karr
12 High School as the girls indoor and outdoor track and field coach, posting an eleven year
13 record of nine District 10-4A championships, three regional championships, and three state
14 titles; and
15 WHEREAS, she also serves as the director of football operations and the girls
16 athletic director; and
17 WHEREAS, with the win at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the LSU campus
18 in Baton Rouge, the Edna Karr High School girls outdoor track & field team secured its third

1 consecutive state title.
2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
3 does hereby commend the Edna Karr High School girls outdoor track & field team on
4 winning the 2017 Class 4A state championship and recognize Coach Tonya Allen for her
5 achievements
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
7 Mr. Harold Clay Jr., Head of School of Edna Karr High School.
