2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 132 BY SENATORS BOUDREAUX AND CORTEZ A RESOLUTION To commend the Teurlings Catholic High School Rebels, from Lafayette, Louisiana, for winning their second consecutive Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4-A Division II baseball state championship. WHEREAS, the Rebels faced the Saints of St. Louis High School from Lake Charles, Louisiana, in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4-A Division II baseball tournament championship game in Sulphur, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, wins this season for the Rebels have often been the result of big innings and they rely heavily on their offense to be the catalyst and carry them to victory; and WHEREAS, true to form, the Rebel offense, as the home team, scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie game wide open; and WHEREAS, the final score in the championship game was 11 to 4 and the Teurlings Rebels were once again the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4-A Division II state champions, for both 2016 and 2017; and WHEREAS, the winning pitcher for the Rebels was Hayden Cantrelle who, despite allowing four runs to the Saints in the top of the first inning, settled down and gave up only seven hits in the entire game, keeping his team within reach of victory; and WHEREAS, Hayden Cantrelle also helped his own cause by batting three for three with a home run, a triple, and two runs batted in; and WHEREAS, the 2017 Teurlings Rebels baseball team includes Garrett Boudreaux, Hayden Cantrelle, Maxim Doucet, Evan Mire, Kade Sonnier, Nick Webre, Grant Clark, Kanin Dodge, Kalun Dronette, Trevor Dupre, Hayden Judice, Hunter Landry, Dylan Langlinais, Blake Blanchard, Connor Dickinson, Braxton Gallet, Ty Leblanc, Peyton Lejeune, Tate Simon, Dain Turner, Caleb Whittington, Bradley Boudreaux, Tyler Brinkman, Cameron Delhomme, Jack Judice, Sammy LeBlanc, and Peyton Prejean; team manager Payton Hofmeyer and head coach Mike Thibodeaux, assistant coaches Richey Garrett and Brock Broussard, and trainer Ricky Landry; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 132 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the Teurlings Rebels entered the game with the St. Louis Saints as the third-seeded team and came from a semifinal win against their 4-A District 4 rival, the St. Thomas More Cougars, also from Lafayette; and WHEREAS, in that semifinal game, Rebel ace, Hayden Judice's mound performance was the highlight, pitching seven innings of one-run baseball; and WHEREAS, offensively, the Rebels put together two three-run innings to support Judice and put themselves in the championship game for the third time in as many years; and WHEREAS, the Teurlings Catholic High School Rebels needed both clutch pitching and an aggressive offense to earn the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4-A Division II state baseball championship for 2017, repeating their title of 2016. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Teurlings Catholic High School Rebels, from Lafayette, Louisiana, for winning their second consecutive Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4-A Division II baseball state championship.
