SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 143
BY SENATOR MIZELL 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Percy William "Uncle Bill" Corkern for forty-eight years plus
of dedicated and distinguished service in law enforcement.
WHEREAS, Percy William Corkern served in the United States Army Reserve,
retiring with the rank of E-8, Master Sergeant; and 
WHEREAS, he joined the Baton Rouge City Police Department on January 1, 1969,
as a patrolman, was promoted to corporal in 1976, sergeant in 1977, lieutenant in 1987, and
as captain from 1993 through September 30, 1996; and
WHEREAS, from 1997 to 1999, Uncle Bill Corkern taught at the Louisiana State
University P.O.S.T. Law Enforcement Academy and, during this time, also taught foreign
law enforcement and private investigators; and 
WHEREAS, in 1999, he was chosen to develop and run the Louisiana Probation &
Parole P.O.S.T. Academy and he served as the academy director for sixteen academies
before becoming a consultant to the academy; and 
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that a heartfelt measure of the highest commendation
be extended to Uncle Bill Corkern for an outstanding career in the field of law enforcement
and for his leadership, intellect, and all of the incomparable talents he has provided the state,
whose citizens will long reap the benefits of his knowledge, expertise, and professional
standard of excellence.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Percy William "Uncle Bill" Corkern for dedicated
and distinguished service in law enforcement spanning forty-eight years plus, record for

posterity his accomplishments, express appreciation for the deep sense of pride and honor
he brings to the state, and extend to him every good wish for success and happiness in all of
his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Percy William Corkern.
