2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 170 BY SENATOR GATTI A RESOLUTION To commend Plain Dealing High School on its academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, and outstanding students and teachers. WHEREAS, Plain Dealing High School is located in Plain Dealing, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, during the 2016-2017 school year, multiple noteworthy achievements and accomplishments were realized; and WHEREAS, the Plain Dealing High School Lions football team advanced to the Class 1A quarterfinals during the 2016 Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) football playoffs; and WHEREAS, two Lions football players, Keldrick Carper and Saxon Cavanaugh, were recruited by Texas A&M University and Louisiana College, respectively; and WHEREAS, Teunna Perry became the Class 1A state champion in long jump and triple jump at the LHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships; and WHEREAS, Keldrick Carper excelled in athletics and was named to the Louisiana Football Coaches Association's composite All-State football team at wide receiver and was also named Class 1A first team at wide receiver and second team at defensive back; and WHEREAS, he was also named honorable mention defensive back on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A All-State football team, was selected 1-1A First Team All District wide receiver and defensive back, and named All Bossier Parish First Team wide receiver; and WHEREAS, Derreon Washington was a two-way second-team All-District selection at wide receiver and linebacker and All Bossier Parish Honorable Mention wide receiver; and WHEREAS, Shavolyea McKinney made the second team at running back and All Bossier Honorable Mention running back; and WHEREAS, Saxon Cavanaugh was named All Bossier Parish Honorable Mention Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 170 ENROLLED offensive lineman; and WHEREAS, the basketball team had its share of stars with Teunna Perry being honored as first team All Parish and first team All District; and WHEREAS, Laterrica Stewart was named second team All Parish, JaKaleb McGee was named first team All District and second team All Parish, and Tyjaun Thomas was named second team All Parish as well; and WHEREAS, in baseball, Caleb Lane was named first team All District; and WHEREAS, softball player Jennifer Langston was named first team All District and LaJerrica Ford, Mayla Dyer, and Nia'relle Scott were named second team All District; and WHEREAS, in the area of academics, Plain Dealing High School was the Regional Autonomous Robotics Circuit grand champion, won the CyberPatriot Open Division State First Place Silver Tier Award, and took first place at the Outstanding High School 4-H Club meeting; and WHEREAS, a student who excelled individually in academics, Georgia Edwards, placed second in English III at the State Literary Rally; and WHEREAS, Dawson Belk was named Plain Dealing High School Student of the Year and Nichole Nuccio was named Bossier Parish High School Teacher of the Year; and WHEREAS, Dawson Belk received an agricultural scholarship, a scholarship from UTeach, a scholarship from the Bossier Association of Retired Teachers, and was accepted to the Louisiana Tech University Honors Program; and WHEREAS, Saxon Cavanaugh received the Lions Club scholarship; and WHEREAS, the administrators, faculty, and students of Plain Dealing High School merit a special measure of commendation and recognition for the noteworthy accomplishments and achievements during the 2016-2017 school year. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the administrators, faculty, and students of Plain Dealing High School; does hereby record for posterity their outstanding accomplishments and achievements during the 2016-2017 school year; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor they bring to the Plain Dealing community and the state of Louisiana.
