A RESOLUTION
To express support for legislation to name the I-49 Exit 11 at Louisiana Highway 93 near
Sunset and Grand Coteau the "Armand J. Brinkhaus Interchange".
WHEREAS, on May 17, 2017, the St. Landry Parish Council adopted a resolution
requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to name the I-49
Exit 11 at Louisiana Highway 93 near Sunset and Grand Coteau the "Armand J. Brinkhaus
Interchange"; and
WHEREAS, the formal naming and signage of an interstate/state highway is
accomplished by the enactment of a bill; and
WHEREAS, the action of the St. Landry Parish Council occurred subsequent to the
deadline for introducing bills at the 2017 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature; and
WHEREAS, the late Armand J. Brinkhaus Sr. of Sunset, Louisiana, served in the
Louisiana House of Representatives from 1968 to 1976 and in the Louisiana Senate from
1976 to 1996, representing St. Landry Parish, as well as the parishes of Acadia, Avoyelles,
Calcasieu, Jefferson Davis, and Lafayette; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Senate hereby express their support for such
legislation at a future legislative session.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express support of legislation which would name the I-49 Exit 11 at Louisiana
Highway 93 near Sunset and Grand Coteau the "Armand J. Brinkhaus Interchange".
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
St. Landry Parish Council.
