2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 202 BY SENATOR MORRISH A RESOLUTION To commend Michael Goss on being the 2017 Kiwanis Regional Spelling Bee champion and on competing in the Ninetieth Scripps National Spelling Bee. WHEREAS, on Friday, March 10, 2017, the Kiwanis Club of Lafayette in partnership with the Kiwanis of Acadiana hosted the 2017 Regional Spelling Bee at Southwest Louisiana Community College, and elementary and middle school students from across the Acadiana region participated in the event; and WHEREAS, Michael Goss, a seventh grade student at St. Michael Catholic School in Crowley, Louisiana, competed in the spelling bee and won the event for the second consecutive year, earning a return trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, where he successfully completed three rounds and finished with an official ranking of tied at forty-first; and WHEREAS, Michael is the Beta Club treasurer and past student council representative; and WHEREAS, he was chosen for the Outstanding Christian Award for his exemplary behavior and dedication to academic excellence; and WHEREAS, Michael is also a member of the quiz bowl, basketball and golf teams, and won a steak dinner in a school contest to learn and recite all of the United States presidents and vice presidents, along with their party affiliations, in the order in which they served; and WHEREAS, Michael Goss is a talented Louisiana student who demonstrates impeccable leadership and a commitment to excellence that is truly commendable; and WHEREAS, it is fitting to herald the achievements of Louisiana's accomplished youth like Michael Goss, a model student and citizen who represents the best and brightest of the state. Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 202 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Michael Goss on becoming the 2017 Kiwanis Regional Spelling Bee champion and on competing in the Ninetieth Scripps National Spelling Bee, and does hereby extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
