SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 48

CONDOLENCES.  Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences on the death of Scott
Anthony Brooks.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
3 passing of Scott Anthony Brooks.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
5 legislature and the citizens of Louisiana have learned of the death of Scott Anthony Brooks,
6 on January 6, 2017, at the age of forty-three; and
7 WHEREAS, Scott Anthony Brooks was born in Church Point, Louisiana, on October
8 5, 1973, to Shirley and Leroy Brooks Sr; and
9 WHEREAS, Scott Anthony Brooks, a native and lifelong resident of Church Point,
10 for most of his life, was a self-employed contractor for their family business, Brooks
11 Construction of Opelousas; and
12 WHEREAS, Scott Anthony Brooks was a dedicated and loving husband, father, son,
13 brother, uncle, and friend in the true meaning of the word; and
14 WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Shalangda Batiste Brooks; daughter, Shelby
15 Anne Brooks; parents, Shirley and Leroy Brooks Sr. of Opelousas; two sisters, Yvette
16 Brooks Tyler and husband, Todd Sr. of Church Point, and Tiffany Brooks Etienne and
17 husband, Donald Sr. of Opelousas; brother, Leroy Brooks Jr. and wife Melba of Opelousas;
18 his father-in-law, Hayward Batiste of Atlanta, Georgia; his mother in law, Patty Leday

1 Batiste of Carencro; two godparents, Carol Singleton Citizen of Church Point, and Wayne
2 Singleton Sr. of Opelousas; six godchildren, a very special godson, Blake Brooks and a host
3 of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; and
4 WHEREAS, Scott Anthony Brooks was preceded in death by his brother, Jude T.
5 Brooks; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Cinderella (Jordan) Singleton; and his
6 paternal grandparents, Henry and Anna (Harmon) Brooks; and
7 WHEREAS, the memory of Scott Anthony Brooks shall live forever in the minds and
8 hearts of all who knew and loved him.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
10 does hereby extend condolences to the family of Anthony Scott Brooks on the occasion of
11 his death.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
13 family of Anthony Scott Brooks.
