2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 54 BY SENATORS ERDEY, ALARIO, ALLAIN, APPEL, BARROW, BISHOP, BOUDREAUX, CARTER, CHABERT, CLAITOR, COLOMB, CORTEZ, DONAHUE, FANNIN, GATTI, HEWITT, JOHNS, LAFLEUR, LAMBERT, LONG, LUNEAU, MARTINY, MILKOVICH, MILLS, MIZELL, MORRELL, MORRISH, PEACOCK, PERRY, PETERSON, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the passing of Sergeant Shawn Thomas Anderson of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and also to commend a life well-spent in service to his community, state, and nation. WHEREAS, condolences are hereby extended to the family, friends, and fellowship of law enforcement personnel who loved and admired Shawn Thomas Anderson for his dedication to professional excellence and for the Christian values that he upheld; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Anderson was a kind and honorable man of great courage, a public servant of the highest caliber, who was among those first-responders, those chosen few who unselfishly place themselves in harm's way to assure the safety of others, the preservation of the peace, and the enforcement of the law; and WHEREAS, on March 18, 2017, Sergeant Shawn Anderson succumbed to injuries encountered in the line of duty and departed this life at the age of forty-three; even so, his legacy of twenty years of exemplary public service to the people of the parish of East Baton Rouge and state of Louisiana who he had served so well, shall remain forever in their memories; and WHEREAS, a 1992 graduate of Baker High School, Shawn was a student-athlete who excelled in baseball; and WHEREAS, Shawn Anderson bravely served his country in the United States Army as a specialist in ordnance and rocket artillery assigned to Multiple Launch Rocket Systems at the Fort Sill Army Post in Oklahoma; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 54 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Sergeant Anderson shall be remembered as a motivator who shared his expertise with his co-workers, placing particular emphasis on the credo of "to protect and serve"; he was always "on the job," twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week, and well-respected by his peers; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Anderson began his service with the Sheriff's Office at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and went on to serve in various divisions that included Narcotics, Emergency Services Unit, Maritime Response, Canine Unit, and as an elite member of the SWAT team for eleven years; and WHEREAS, he worked Uniform Patrol with his fellow deputies at the Burbank, Scotlandville, and Kleinpeter substations; and WHEREAS, during his tenure at the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, he received recognition for meritorious service that included a Life Saving Award in 2010, emergency delivery of an infant in 2016, and service of more than sixty high-risk arrest warrants in 2013; and WHEREAS, a resident of Walker, Louisiana; Shawn Anderson was an avid sports fan who enjoyed following LSU Tiger football and the Dallas Cowboys; as an attentive husband and father, Shawn experienced immense pride watching his children compete in sports activities; and WHEREAS, at his funeral Sergeant Shawn Thomas Anderson was honored on behalf of a grateful nation with an honor guard of fellow officers and a processional of brothers and sisters of The Thin Blue Line who paid homage to their fallen comrade and escorted him to his final resting place at Shiloh Baptist Church in Pine Grove; and WHEREAS, preceded in death by his father, Jack Anderson, Shawn is survived by his loving wife Becky Davis Anderson, and their two children, Delaney Grace and Breland Thomas; his mother Carol Anderson Bergeron, brother Jackie Anderson and wife, Stefanie; his brothers Dustin Martin and Bruce Anderson; his sisters Debbie Anderson, Paula Ledford, Renee Anderson, and Kristin Martin, along with extended family and countless friends; and WHEREAS, to his comrades-in-arms, Sergeant Shawn Anderson is now 10-7; he is at the End of Watch; and he has gone to his heavenly home to be at peace with his Lord and under the eternal protection of St. Michael, patron saint of law enforcement and The Thin Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 54 ENROLLED Blue Line. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend sincere condolences to the family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers of Sergeant Shawn Thomas Anderson of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, who died in the line of duty on March 18, 2017. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby note the dedication of Sergeant Shawn Thomas Anderson to the noble calling of law enforcement, his character and humanity, and his sacrifice, and to make evident the enduring appreciation and gratitude of the people of East Baton Rouge Parish, the state of Louisiana, and the nation.
