2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 55 BY SENATOR GARY SMITH A RESOLUTION To recognize May 2, 2017, as Marathon Petroleum Corporation Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, a company with a one-hundred- thirty-year history, became an independent corporation listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2011; and WHEREAS, health and safety, environmental stewardship, integrity, corporate citizenship, and an inclusive culture are core principles that guide Marathon Petroleum Corporation's approach to doing business; and WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation is the nation's third-largest petroleum refiner, with a total crude-distillation capacity of one million eight hundred seventeen thousand barrels per calendar day across its seven-plant refinery system, and an extensive network of pipelines and terminals to distribute petroleum products; and WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation's Garyville refinery commenced operations in St. John the Baptist Parish in 1976; and WHEREAS, the Garyville Major Expansion-Project (GME) was completed by Marathon Petroleum Corporation in 2009, at a cost of three billion nine hundred million dollars, and is one of the largest private-sector capital investments in Louisiana history; and WHEREAS, as a result of the GME and subsequent debottlenecking, the Garyville refinery has a crude-distillation capacity of five hundred forty-three thousand barrels per calendar day, ranking it as the third-largest petroleum refinery in the United States and the largest refinery in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation's Louisiana Refining Division is committed to safety and environmental stewardship, evidenced by the fact that the company's Garyville refinery is the nation's only petroleum refinery admitted to the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Voluntary Early Reduction Program for Air Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 55 ENROLLED Toxics under the Clean Air Act, has been an Occupational Safety and Health Administration Voluntary Protection Program Star Site since 1994, and has received twenty-two Governor's Environmental Leadership Awards; and WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation's Louisiana Refining Division and its employees are actively involved in their communities through numerous volunteer efforts, including humanitarian aid and relief following major storms and floods; providing monetary and mentoring support as partners in education with all St. John the Baptist Parish kindergarten through twelfth grade schools; scholarships and internships for Louisiana State University, South Central Louisiana Technical College, and River Parishes Community College; major supporter of St. John the Baptist Parish United Way and the San Francisco Plantation Frisco Festival; and assistance to many other community organizations and activities. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize May 2, 2017, as Marathon Petroleum Corporation Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
