2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 77 BY SENATOR MILLS A RESOLUTION To commend the Louisiana Psychological Association and to designate Monday, May 8, 2017, as Psychology Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. WHEREAS, psychology is a diverse discipline, grounded in science, with numerous applications in everyday life; and WHEREAS, practicing psychologists have the professional training and clinical skills to help people learn to cope more effectively with life issues and mental health problems; and WHEREAS, psychologists advance the creation, communication, evaluation, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and to improve the lives of their patients and clients; and WHEREAS, psychologists study normal and abnormal behavior and treat individuals with mental and emotional problems; and WHEREAS, psychologists study and encourage behaviors that build wellness and emotional resilience; and WHEREAS, practicing psychologists can help with a range of health problems and use an assortment of evidence-based treatments to help people improve their lives; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Psychological Association, as the state professional association representing psychologists in all practice, research, and academic settings, works to further the development of psychology as a science, as an applied practice, and as a means of promoting human welfare; and WHEREAS, currently, more than seven hundred fifty licensed psychologists practice in this state to serve the people of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, in June, the Louisiana Psychological Association will host its annual convention with an emphasis in 2017 on the support that psychology affords patients and clients of all ages and in all stages of life. Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 77 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Psychological Association and does hereby designate Monday, May 8, 2017, as Psychology Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Lucinda DeGrange, PhD, president of the Louisiana Psychological Association, and Cindy Bishop, executive director.
