SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 79
BY SENATOR PEACOCK 
A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of John "Pa" Breitschopf, United States Marine Corps veteran.
WHEREAS, Mr. Breitschopf was born to John Joseph Breitschopf and Elizabeth
Eula Stolle in Waelder, Texas, on March 4, 1927, and he died on April 27, 2017, at the age
of ninety; and
WHEREAS, John Breitschopf and his sister, Elizabeth, were orphaned at a young age
with the death of their parents in a terrible accident between their car and a train; and
WHEREAS, stepping in to raise the children were their German immigrant
grandparents, who brought the children to their home in New Braunfels, Texas; and
WHEREAS, after working in a tire factory during his teens, Mr. Breitschopf joined
the Unites States Marine Corps and became a Marine for life; and
WHEREAS, John Breitschopf served for several years aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt,
a Midway-class aircraft carrier that spent most of her active deployed career in the
Mediterranean Sea as part of the United States Sixth Fleet; and
WHEREAS, while in port at the United States Naval Base at Norfolk, Virginia, Mr.
Breitschopf met Maxine "Nan" Weese and after a courtship, the two were married; and
WHEREAS, when his career as a Marine ended, John Breitschopf worked in the
oilfields to support Nan and his family; and
WHEREAS, as young adults, Mr. and Mrs. Breitschopf and their two children, David
and Lynda, moved to Bossier City which remained their home; and
WHEREAS, the couple raised their children and, eventually, Mr. Breitschopf retired
from the oil field life, opened Southern Gardens, and lived there with their children for the
remainder of their lives; and

WHEREAS, John Breitschopf was a member of Barksdale United Methodist Church,
enjoyed attending family events, and was an enthusiastic fan of the Louisiana State
University Tigers and both the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints of the National
Football League; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Breitschopf enjoyed his hobbies, including working in his garden,
raising cattle, tinkering with tractors, and building things from lawn mowers and pipes; and
WHEREAS, John Breitschopf truly loved his time fishing, particularly at Toledo
Bend and Ninock Plantation; and
WHEREAS, Nan predeceased her husband, but left to treasure their memories of
their "Pa" are their two children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS, John "Pa" Breitschopf lived a long life filled with service to his country,
a loving marriage with his wife, and he had the pleasure of treasuring his children and their
families while pursuing hobbies that he enjoyed; a life well lived.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of John "Pa" Breitschopf, United
States Marine Corps veteran and family man.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
David Breitschopf on behalf of the entire Breitschopf family.
