2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 8 BY SENATOR WARD A RESOLUTION To commend Bradley Gueho for his outstanding community service in the establishment of a charitable food pantry in his hometown of Livonia, Louisiana, and to congratulate him on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. WHEREAS, Nelson Bradley Gueho is a senior at Catholic High School of Pointe Coupee who led an impressive community service project to create the Great Harvest Food Pantry now located at the District Four fire substation on Calloway Lane in Livonia; and WHEREAS, as an Eagle Scout candidate, Bradley was required to complete a comprehensive community service project, and through diligence and hard work, the undertaking was completed in eight months; and WHEREAS, working along with his troop and scoutmasters, Gueho secured donations of lumber and equipment to construct the ninety square-foot building and to furnish it with shelving, lighting, and air conditioning; and WHEREAS, Bradley and fellow scout, Travis O'Callaghan, arranged food drives at local high schools, False River Academy, and Catholic High School of Pointe Coupee, which along with local contributions of nonperishable food items, stocked the facility; and WHEREAS, the Great Harvest Food Pantry opened in August 2016, and supplies food for the needy; and it was especially helpful during the summer flood of 2016 and the holiday season that year; and WHEREAS, Bradley Gueho was awarded his Eagle Scout Badge by the Istrouma Area Council of Boy Scouts of America in December 2016; a well-earned accomplishment for a worthy recipient; and WHEREAS, the rank of Eagle Scout is a rare pinnacle in scouting with only four percent of all scouts attaining the rank of Eagle; to attain the Eagle Badge, a scout must earn at least twenty-one merit badges, display leadership and outdoor skills, demonstrate by example the Scout Oath and Law, and complete a service project in the community; which in the case of Bradley, resulted in the creation of the Great Harvest Food Pantry; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 8 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the Boy Scout Oath states, "On my honor, I will do my best. To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight", and Bradley Gueho has upheld that promise in thought, word, and deed; and WHEREAS, other nationally known and prestigious Eagle Scouts include President Gerald Ford, astronaut Neil Armstrong, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and the founder of Walmart, Inc., Sam Walton; and WHEREAS, Bradley is the son of Assistant Police Chief Kerry Gueho and Michelle Gueho, who are very proud of their son and the remarkable improvements he has brought to fruition; and WHEREAS, Bradley received national recognition as a 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Distinguished Finalist for exemplary volunteer service; and WHEREAS, the opening of the food bank received public notice at the Livonia Town Council meeting on August 8, 2016, by Mayor Troy Chustz and Police Chief Brad Joffrion; and WHEREAS, Bradley Gueho used a service-oriented project to help those in need and brought about a meaningful and much needed change to his community. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Bradley Gueho for his outstanding community service. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby congratulate Bradley on his achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout.
