Expresses the condolences of the Louisiana Senate upon the death of U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Evan Burnett. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the 3 family of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Evan Burnett upon his death 4 while serving in the armed forces of his country. 5 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett was a native of Monroe, Louisiana, and a 6 resident of Ft. Necessity, Louisiana, at the time of his death; and 7 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett was a 2009 graduate of Franklin Parish High 8 School and was a member of the school's Reserve Officer Training Corps because of his 9 strong interest in military service; and 10 WHEREAS, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January of 2015, and 11 began the tough, demanding challenge of Marine Corps basic training at Paris Island, South 12 Carolina; and 13 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett continued his training and was successful in 14 achieving the title of Data Network Specialist and was working in that capacity while he was 15 stationed at Camp LeJeune, South Carolina; and 16 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett proved himself to be a fine Marine and was 17 proud of serving his country as a member of the Marine Corps, which he considered the 18 finest fighting force in the world; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 89 SLS 17RS-87 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett died during a visit to his home in Fort Necessity 2 on January 28, 2017, leaving his family and close friends in the dark about the reasons and 3 causes behind his death; and 4 WHEREAS, he is survived by his mother, Kathleen Burnett of Fort Necessity; his 5 brother, Dustin and sister-in-law, Lorna, and their children Conner and Adrian, all of Baton 6 Rouge; his sister and brother-in-law, Jamie and Caleb Smith of Rayville; and his 7 grandmother Irma Carter of Winnsboro; and 8 WHEREAS, the loss of Lance Corporal Burnett is immeasurable to those who loved 9 him and who now must struggle with the mystery of his passing at such a young age with 10 so much of his life still before him; and 11 WHEREAS, his untimely death will never be forgotten by those who witnessed his 12 solemn funeral ceremony and saw the full military honors bestowed upon him by the Marine 13 Corps Honor Guard that laid him in his final resting place. 14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 15 does hereby extend its deepest and most profound condolences to the family and friends of 16 United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Evan Burnett for their loss and his great 17 sacrifice. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 19 mother of Evan Burnett.
