ENROLLED 2018 First Extraordinary Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 3 BY REPRESENTATIVE PIERRE A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the Lafayette High School "Mighty Lion" Marching Band upon the momentous occasion of being selected to perform in the 92nd Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2018. WHEREAS, Lafayette High School’s marching band was selected as one of twelve bands, from collegiate, high school, and military bands from all across the United States, and that will march in the 2018 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade; and WHEREAS, the Lafayette High School marching band has a legacy of great accomplishment and has been recognized as the best marching band in the state of Louisiana for the past fifteen consecutive years; and WHEREAS, the Lafayette High School marching band includes more than two hundred dedicated students and is supported by enthusiastic parents, friends, administrators, and corporate citizens; and WHEREAS, Scotty Walker, director of Lafayette High School Bands, has led the program for more than twenty-four years; and WHEREAS, the marching band program helps students develop discipline and problem-solving skills; inspires respect for others, creative thinking, and good citizenship; and provides a solid foundation for academic learning; and WHEREAS, the Lafayette High School marching band is accustomed to high honors; in 2017, it was named Overall Grand Champion in the USBands Super Regional Competition in Dallas, Texas, and it was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award by the National Band Association in 2015, one of only four recipients of this award; and WHEREAS, Louisiana's great musical legacy will be well represented by the ensemble in the 2018 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as more than 3.5 million people Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 3 ENROLLED view the parade live along the parade route and more than fifty million viewers tune in to the television broadcast. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the members of the Lafayette High School "Mighty Lion" Marching Band for their hard work and dedication culminating in the outstanding achievement of being invited to perform in the 92nd Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the honor they bring to Lafayette and to the state of Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Scotty Walker, director of the Lafayette High School marching band.
