HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 5

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the Holy Cross boys' soccer team for winning the 2018 Allstate Sugar Bowl
Division II championship.
WHEREAS, the Holy Cross Tigers boys' soccer team faced off against the Beau
Chene Gators in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Allstate Sugar Bowl
Division II championship at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajun Soccer
Facility on February 22, 2018, in a game that featured the two top-seeded teams in
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, players on each team were competing for their school's first-ever state
title in soccer, and for the eventual champion Tigers, it was a formidable task in front of a
boisterous crowd composed two-thirds of fans from the opposing team; and
WHEREAS, despite falling behind by a score of 0-1 in the first half, Holy Cross
Coach Matt Millet rallied his players at halftime; the Tigers scored twice within a span of
sixty seconds to take a 2-1 lead with a game-tying goal by Ethan Garvey and a go-ahead
score by Most Outstanding Player Sebastian Aguilar; the final score of 3-1 was achieved on
a goal by Chad Cadiere; and
WHEREAS, the championship team assembled by Stuart Hayers, director of soccer;
Matt Millet, associate head coach; Jonathan Largaespaeda, assistant coach; Eric Kastroup
and David Wright, trainers; Dr. Joseph Murry, principal; Sean Martin, headmaster; and Steve
Costa, athletic director, demonstrated dedication in practice and excellence in performance,
and each member of the Holy Cross boys' soccer team deserves mention: seniors Sebastian
Aguilar, Blake Baldassaro, Alejandro Burgos, Joseph Gerarve, Jude Heidingsfelder, Ethan
Jones, and Teodoro Monthey; juniors Thomas Dugal, Andre Farnet, Josue Fuentes, Ethan

Garvey, Nolan Heitmeier, Luke Lafrance, Hayden Manuel, and Alex Paradis; sophomores
Chad Cadiere, Elijah Rodriguez, and Andrew Smith; and freshmen Rafael Bosley, Camden
Carroll, Jake D'Agostino, Evan Jones, Dante Maraldo, Sinjin Mills, Cross Mitchell, and
Jordan Schumacher; and
WHEREAS, the Holy Cross Tigers and their fans can celebrate an outstanding soccer
season that featured a record of 20-3-2 which culminated in the achievement of the highest
sports honor in the state, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division II
championship in boys' soccer.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate the Holy Cross boys' soccer team, coaching and auxiliary staff,
school administration, students, and supporters on the school's first-ever state championship
and does hereby express best wishes for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Holy Cross School.
