Talbot, Jr. 1 A RESOLUTION 2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Robert F. 3 Talbot, Jr. 4 WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow and a profound sense of loss that the members 5of the House of Representatives learned of the death on January 20, 2018, of New Orleans 6businessman and civic leader, Robert F. Talbot, Jr.; and 7 WHEREAS, born on New Year's Day in 1937, Robert Fellers Talbot, Jr., was the 8only son of Concordia and Robert Talbot, joining sisters Patsy and Betty in the Talbot 9family; young Bob spent his secondary school years at Jesuit High School, and after he 10graduated in 1955, he attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and Tulane 11University in New Orleans; and 12 WHEREAS, in response to the call of duty from his country, Robert Talbot, Jr., 13served in the United States Army; and 14 WHEREAS, Bob Talbot was a loyal and involved graduate of Jesuit High School 15who volunteered on several boards and committees and was a member of the Jesuit 16President's Advisory Council; for his boundless passion in improving his alma mater for 17those who would follow, Robert Talbot, Jr., was voted Jesuit Alumnus of the Year in 1996; 18and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Talbot was the founder and chairman of Talbot Realty Group, a 20business staple in New Orleans; and 21 WHEREAS, active in his community and a pioneer in the redevelopment of Canal 22Street, the Central Business District, and the Warehouse District, Bob Talbot was a member Page 1 of 3 HR NO. 4 HLS 181ES-13 ORIGINAL 1of the Central Committee of the Chamber of Commerce; he played a major role in securing 2listings on condominium projects, the sale of parcels of land for hospital projects, and the 3assemblage of property for the land-based casino in downtown New Orleans; Mr. Talbot also 4was a member of the Urban Land Institute, and he helped to revitalize the New Orleans 5Warehouse District after the 1984 World's Fair; and 6 WHEREAS, at the inception of his interest in areas from the Mississippi River to 7Claiborne Avenue and Poydras Street to the Crescent City Connection (known at the time 8as the Greater New Orleans Bridge), clients and other real estate agents asked him what was 9he doing "down there with all of the bums and warehouses"; the transformation and 10burgeoning development of the Warehouse District has definitively answered all queries; 11Bob Talbot was a visionary; and 12 WHEREAS, his business acumen resulted in prestigious appointments for Bob 13Talbot to the Board of Administration of Charity Hospital of New Orleans and the Louisiana 14State Racing Commission; he was also president of the Fathers Club at the Academy of the 15Sacred Heart and served in leadership at St. Rita Elementary School; and 16 WHEREAS, Bob was a true fan to his Jesuit Blue Jays sports teams and was a fixture 17on the sidelines; one of his favorite pastimes was watching his children and grandchildren 18play sports, and he happily supported their athletic endeavors; good times for Bob Talbot 19were spent with family and good friends; and 20 WHEREAS, Robert F. Talbot, Jr., lived a life large and full of joy, one that was 21exemplary of the prayer he consistently prayed with his family: "let us ever be mindful of 22the needs of others"; Bob will be missed by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Bonnie 23Smith Talbot; his children, Beth Talbot Dienes, and her husband Eddie; Robert E. Talbot, 24and his wife Jennifer; Brent A. Talbot, and his wife Melanie; Shaun K. Talbot, and his wife 25Dawn; Lisa Talbot Fletcher, and her husband John; and Christopher P. Talbot; his sister 26Patsy Talbot Hotard; his grandchildren, Patrick, and his wife Katie; Betsy and Caroline 27Dienes; Ross and Reilly Talbot; Brent, Jr., Mackie, and Lanie Talbot; Molly, Adam, and 28Michael Talbot; William, Talbot, and Robert Fletcher; and Lilly and Kate Talbot; his great- 29granddaughter, Hunter Grace Dienes; and extended family and friends; and Page 2 of 3 HR NO. 4 HLS 181ES-13 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, while the departure of Bob Talbot has left an immeasurable void in the 2lives of his family, friends, and the business community of New Orleans, his legacy is 3forever etched in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved him. 4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the 6family and friends of Robert F. Talbot, Jr., on his departure from this life; does hereby record 7for posterity the manifold and substantial contributions of Mr. Talbot to the business 8prosperity of downtown New Orleans and the Warehouse District; does hereby acknowledge 9the leadership Mr. Talbot exhibited through his involvement in educational, civic, and 10charitable organizations in New Orleans; and does hereby offer sincere thoughts and prayers 11for peace and comfort to those who mourn his passing. 12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 13to the family of Robert F.
