ENROLLED 2018 First Extraordinary Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4 BY REPRESENTATIVE MORENO A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Robert F. Talbot, Jr. WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow and a profound sense of loss that the members of the House of Representatives learned of the death on January 20, 2018, of New Orleans businessman and civic leader, Robert F. Talbot, Jr.; and WHEREAS, born on New Year's Day in 1937, Robert Fellers Talbot, Jr., was the only son of Concordia and Robert Talbot, joining sisters Patsy and Betty in the Talbot family; young Bob spent his secondary school years at Jesuit High School, and after he graduated in 1955, he attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and Tulane University in New Orleans; and WHEREAS, in response to the call of duty from his country, Robert Talbot, Jr., served in the United States Army; and WHEREAS, Bob Talbot was a loyal and involved graduate of Jesuit High School who volunteered on several boards and committees and was a member of the Jesuit President's Advisory Council; for his boundless passion in improving his alma mater for those who would follow, Robert Talbot, Jr., was voted Jesuit Alumnus of the Year in 1996; and WHEREAS, Mr. Talbot was the founder and chairman of Talbot Realty Group, a business staple in New Orleans; and WHEREAS, active in his community and a pioneer in the redevelopment of Canal Street, the Central Business District, and the Warehouse District, Bob Talbot was a member of the Central Committee of the Chamber of Commerce; he played a major role in securing Page 1 of 3 HR NO. 4 ENROLLED listings on condominium projects, the sale of parcels of land for hospital projects, and the assemblage of property for the land-based casino in downtown New Orleans; Mr. Talbot also was a member of the Urban Land Institute, and he helped to revitalize the New Orleans Warehouse District after the 1984 World's Fair; and WHEREAS, at the inception of his interest in areas from the Mississippi River to Claiborne Avenue and Poydras Street to the Crescent City Connection (known at the time as the Greater New Orleans Bridge), clients and other real estate agents asked him what was he doing "down there with all of the bums and warehouses"; the transformation and burgeoning development of the Warehouse District has definitively answered all queries; Bob Talbot was a visionary; and WHEREAS, his business acumen resulted in prestigious appointments for Bob Talbot to the Board of Administration of Charity Hospital of New Orleans and the Louisiana State Racing Commission; he was also president of the Fathers Club at the Academy of the Sacred Heart and served in leadership at St. Rita Elementary School; and WHEREAS, Bob was a true fan to his Jesuit Blue Jays sports teams and was a fixture on the sidelines; one of his favorite pastimes was watching his children and grandchildren play sports, and he happily supported their athletic endeavors; good times for Bob Talbot were spent with family and good friends; and WHEREAS, Robert F. Talbot, Jr., lived a life large and full of joy, one that was exemplary of the prayer he consistently prayed with his family: "let us ever be mindful of the needs of others"; Bob will be missed by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Bonnie Smith Talbot; his children, Beth Talbot Dienes, and her husband Eddie; Robert E. Talbot, and his wife Jennifer; Brent A. Talbot, and his wife Melanie; Shaun K. Talbot, and his wife Dawn; Lisa Talbot Fletcher, and her husband John; and Christopher P. Talbot; his sister Patsy Talbot Hotard; his grandchildren, Patrick, and his wife Katie; Betsy and Caroline Dienes; Ross and Reilly Talbot; Brent, Jr., Mackie, and Lanie Talbot; Molly, Adam, and Michael Talbot; William, Talbot, and Robert Fletcher; and Lilly and Kate Talbot; his great- granddaughter, Hunter Grace Dienes; and extended family and friends; and WHEREAS, while the departure of Bob Talbot has left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, friends, and the business community of New Orleans, his legacy is forever etched in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved him. Page 2 of 3 HR NO. 4 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Robert F. Talbot, Jr., on his departure from this life; does hereby record for posterity the manifold and substantial contributions of Mr. Talbot to the business prosperity of downtown New Orleans and the Warehouse District; does hereby acknowledge the leadership Mr. Talbot exhibited through his involvement in educational, civic, and charitable organizations in New Orleans; and does hereby offer sincere thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort to those who mourn his passing.
