HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 16
BY REPRESENTATIVE JACKSON
A RESOLUTION
To commend Margie Whatley upon the momentous occasion of her ninetieth birthday.
WHEREAS, Margie Fae Butler Whatley was born on June 7, 1928, in Jena,
Louisiana, to Benjamin and Isalee Corley Butler and is celebrating her ninetieth birthday on
June 7, 2018; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong Louisiana resident, Mrs. Whatley graduated from Trout
Goodpine High School and married Isaac E. Whatley, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, after earning clerical and administrative certifications through
vocational training in Ferriday, Louisiana, Mrs. Whatley worked for the Natchez Area
Chamber of Commerce; she later worked for, and retired from, Georgia Pacific in Port
Hudson, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong learner, she pursued software training and returned to work
at Louisiana State University's School of Education; Mrs. Whatley was ever-active in
professional women's organizations; and
WHEREAS, Margie is the loving mother of the late Dorthice Whatley Clary, the late
Clarnce Garvin Whatley, Dennise Whatley Huffman, and Delene Whatley Rawls; she is the
grandmother of Kari Clary Thomas, Christopher Whatley, Chad Whatley, Martin Bijou, Sara
Brannon, Rachel Lautigar, and Roman Rawls; she is the proud great-grandmother of Ashton,
Larsen, and Jackson Thomas and Noah and Joseph Whatley; and
WHEREAS, she has resided in Monroe since 2004; Mrs. Whatley is a member of
Bastrop United Pentecostal Church and has also attended First United Pentecostal Church
of Baton Rouge and Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church of Zachary; and

WHEREAS,  Mrs. Whatley is one of Louisiana's finest daughters, and her ninetieth
birthday is a joyous event that deserves heartfelt congratulations.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Margie Whatley upon the momentous
occasion of her ninetieth birthday; does hereby record for posterity the extraordinary life she
has lived as a businesswoman, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; and does
hereby extend to her every good wish for health and happiness in the years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Margie Whatley.
