HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 39
BY REPRESENTATIVE BAGLEY
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate John Stephens, Jr., of Logansport High School for being
named the 2018 Male Athlete of the Year by the Shreveport Times.
WHEREAS, John Stephens, Jr., is a standout defensive end and wide receiver of the
Logansport Tigers football team, a stellar big man on the basketball court, and a two-time
state champion high jumper; his father was the late John Stephens, 1998 NFL Rookie of the
Year as a running back for the New England Patriots; and
WHEREAS, John Stephens, Jr., is rated a three-star receiver and, in 2017, he was
rated number sixty-seven nationally in the athlete category, according to 247Sports
composite rankings; and
WHEREAS, Stephens led the Logansport team to the Louisiana Class 1A state
football title in 2016 and is a first-team Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State
football selection; and
WHEREAS, Stephens, a 6'4", 210-pound junior, was Texas Christian University's
first wide receiver commitment of the football recruiting class of 2018; and
WHEREAS, John Stephens, Jr., has displayed superior qualities in athletics as
demonstrated by his performances on the ballfield, basketball court, and in track and field,
and is truly deserving of the Shreveport Times 2018 Male Athlete of the Year Award.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate John Stephens, Jr., of
Logansport High School for being named the 2018 Male Athlete of the Year by the
Shreveport Times and does hereby extend to him best wishes for full measures of continued
success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
