SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 17

A RESOLUTION
To commend Lieutenant Julie Lewis and Captain Tommy Lewis upon their retirement.
WHEREAS, this year Lieutenant Julie Lewis and Captain Tommy Lewis will be
retiring from the Louisiana State Police after giving years of extraordinary public service to
the people of the state; and
WHEREAS, Julie Lewis began her career in law enforcement on May 23, 1993,
working first as a trooper assigned to Ouachita and Lincoln parishes before becoming a
narcotics investigator working with her beloved K-9 partner "Simba"; and
WHEREAS, she eventually transferred to Troop F Public Affairs where she would
be promoted to sergeant, followed by a promotion to the rank of lieutenant while serving as
the executive officer of public affairs statewide; and
WHEREAS, Julie Lewis was finally promoted to the rank of lieutenant in
intelligence and insurance fraud before announcing her retirement after twenty-five years
of an honorable and distinguished career in law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, Tommy Lewis began his career in law enforcement on June 2, 1990,
first working as a Ouachita Parish trooper and as a resident trooper in Jackson Parish; and
WHEREAS, during his career he would serve as the public information officer in the
public affairs division before being promoted to shift sergeant in the patrol division; and
WHEREAS, Tommy Lewis would eventually rise to the rank of both shift lieutenant
and executive officer of Troop F before being promoted to troop commander in 2013, a
position he would serve in until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, both Lieutenant Julie Lewis and Captain Tommy Lewis deserve many
years of retirement together after having served their state and the people of Louisiana with
distinction and honor, and will always be remembered as the embodiment of the type of
troopers who make up the Louisiana State Police.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Lieutenant Julie Lewis and Captain Tommy Lewis
upon their retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Lieutenant Julie Lewis and Captain Tommy Lewis.
