SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Kingston Elementary School on winning the Elementary
National Championship in the National Archery in Schools Program and finishing fourth in
the NASP/IBO 3-D competition.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Kingston Elementary School archery team on winning the Elementary
3 National Championship in the NASP Tournament and finishing fourth in the
4 NASP®/IBO 3-D competition.
5 WHEREAS, Kingston Elementary School in Benton captured the elementary
6 national championship in the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) National
7 Tournament held in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 10-12; and 
8 WHEREAS, it is the third time a Louisiana school has won a national title as Benton
9 Middle School won in 2016, taking the middle school national championship and Benton
10 Elementary won last year's championship over 179 other schools; and 
11 WHEREAS, Kingston took home this year's championship over 171 other
12 elementary schools; and also finished fourth in the NASP®/IBO 3-D championship; and
13 WHEREAS, Kingston Elementary School and other Louisiana schools taking part
14 in the NASP® National Tournament are part of the Archery in Louisiana Schools Program
15 (ALAS), administered by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries; and
16 WHEREAS, the ALAS Program is part of NASP, designed to teach students in
17 grades 4-12 international target style archery while the NASP®/IBO 3-D program features
18 students shooting life-like 3-D animal targets with the same equipment used in the NASP

1 program; the ALAS/NASP program is available to all schools in Louisiana and grants are
2 available to assist with funding; and
3 WHEREAS, top ten finishers for Kingston included Spencer Campbell, eighth place
4 in bullseye; Jackson Vickers, 10th place in bullseye; and Gilliana Gonzalez, eighth place in
5 bullseye; and
6 WHEREAS, a total of 14,139 archers from across the United States competed in the
7 2018 National Tournament, including 220 from 14 Louisiana schools, and many of these
8 students will move on to compete at the NASP World Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky,
9 on June 7-9; and 
10 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the Kingston Elementary School
11 archery team could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills of the coaches
12 and all of the other individuals who have contributed to the success of the archery program;
13 and
14 WHEREAS, the team performance of the entire Kingston Elementary School archery
15 team in capturing the 2018 Elementary National Championship in the NASP Tournament
16 were earned through teamwork, determination, and dedication to the sport of archery.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
18 does hereby commend and congratulate the Kingston Elementary School archery team on 
19 winning the Elementary National Championship in the NASP Tournament and finishing
20 fourth in the NASP®/IBO 3-D competition.
21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
22 principal of Kingston Elementary School.
