2018 Second Extraordinary Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27 BY SENATORS CARTER, ALARIO, ALLAIN, APPEL, BARROW, BISHOP, BOUDREAUX, CHABERT, CLAITOR, COLOMB, CORTEZ, DONAHUE, ERDEY, FANNIN, GATTI, HEWITT, JOHNS, LAFLEUR, LAMBERT, LONG, LUNEAU, MARTINY, MILKOVICH, MILLS, MIZELL, MORRELL, MORRISH, PEACOCK, PERRY, PETERSON, PRICE, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE A RESOLUTION To commend posthumously Antoine "Fats" Domino and to express condolences to his family. WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize and record for posterity the extraordinary achievements and contributions of Fats Domino of New Orleans, who died on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at the age of eighty-nine; and WHEREAS, a lifelong New Orleanian, Fats Domino had a long and remarkable career as a popular musician; he dominated pop and R&B charts from 1949 until the early 1960s; and WHEREAS, Antoine Dominique Domino Jr., was born in the Lower Ninth Ward on February 26, 1928, to Antoine Domino Sr. and Donatile Gros Domino; he was the youngest of eight children; and WHEREAS, at an early age, he had an affinity for playing the piano; his unique piano style and voice would later appeal to audiences all over the world; and WHEREAS, Fats Domino was married to Rosemary Hall from 1947 until the time of her death in 2008, and together they had eight children; and WHEREAS, his first record, "The Fat Man" was the first rock and roll record to sell over one million copies, and was the beginning of a host of hits to follow, including "Blueberry Hill", "I'm Walking", "Ain't That a Shame", and "I'm Walking to New Orleans"; and WHEREAS, Fats Domino's career spanned more than five decades and he produced over twenty-five gold singles and sold over sixty-five million records; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 27 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Mr. Domino was recognized with numerous honors and awards; in 1986, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; the following year, he was honored with the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award; President Clinton awarded him the National Medal of Arts in 1998, and in 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number twenty-five in its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time"; and WHEREAS, in spite of his success and many accolades, Fats was always a very humble man with a smile that lit up a room; and WHEREAS, Antoine "Fats" Domino is survived by his children, Anatole, Antonio, and Adonica Domino, Antoinette Smith, Anola Hartzog, and Andrea Brimmer; numerous grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend posthumously Antoine "Fats" Domino and express condolences to his family; does hereby recognize his extraordinary musical gifts and talents; does hereby extend appreciation for his enduring legacy that will continue to be a source of great pride and honor for his family and friends, the city of New Orleans, and the state of Louisiana; and does hereby extend thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort.
