2018 Second Extraordinary Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5 BY SENATOR WALSWORTH A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate the Ouachita Parish High School Lady Lions girls softball team on winning the 2018 Class 5A state championship. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned that the Ouachita Parish High School Lady Lions softball team won the 2018 Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Class 5A state championship; and WHEREAS, the Ouachita Parish High School Lady Lions finished a phenomenal regular season as the District 2 champions with an impressive district record of 9-1; and WHEREAS, this year's senior class had a four-year record of 112 wins and only 19 losses, the Lady Lions won their first ever softball state championship title in 2014, and were the state runner up last year in 2017; and WHEREAS, this team of first-class athletes includes Abby Allen, Alyssa Allen, Maddie Bond, Alivia Buckhalter, Mattie Day, Alli Deiter, Allie Ellerbe, Brittney Fendall, Madelyn Fletcher, Bre Futch, Denne'ja Howell, McKenna Kimball, Haven Ladart, Tailor Lenard, Jordyn Manning, Kyandria Neal, Kaylee Nettles, Kendyl Patton, Tiya Randle, Sarah Stacy, and Macy Taylor, all of whom contributed to the team's success, and each of whom merits recognition and congratulations for their outstanding play and winning effort; and WHEREAS, their commitment to teamwork propelled them forward, going 5-0 in the playoffs to end their memorable season with an overall record of 33-4 which includes the 10-9 victory over Hahnville High School in the final playoff game to capture the 2018 LHSAA Class 5A state championship; and WHEREAS, senior standouts Alyssa Allen was named the most valuable player for the championship game and Allie Ellerbe was the winning pitcher for all five of the playoff games including the championship game; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 5 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Head Coach Tim Whitman, and assistant coaches Gary Parnham, Samantha Hamby, James Truxillo, Mallory Vining, and Nelson Boggs utilized the softball field as a nontraditional classroom where they employed their acute knowledge and impassioned conviction to enlighten the minds and forge the character of their players, instilling indispensable principles in these young women that will assist them in attaining success in all their future endeavors; and WHEREAS, the members of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana wish to recognize each of these extraordinary young women and coaches on their much deserved championship title earned through teamwork, determination, and dedication to the sport and each other. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the players and coaches of the Ouachita Parish High School Lady Lions softball team on an impressive and memorable season, and on capturing the 2018 Class 5A state championship title. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Ouachita Parish High School Principal Larry Long and Lady Lions Head Softball Coach Tim Whitman.
