2018 Second Extraordinary Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 6 BY SENATOR WHITE A RESOLUTION To commend Baton Rouge police officer Deena Weissberg for her efforts to raise funds for Back the Blue of Baton Rouge. WHEREAS, Back the Blue of Baton Rouge is dedicated to supporting law enforcement officers and their families who are in need; these men and women put their lives on the line to protect citizens daily; and WHEREAS, Deena Weissberg is a Baton Rouge Police Department officer originally from Poughkeepsie, New York; she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at seventeen and is currently a uniformed patrol member assigned to bicycles; and WHEREAS, Officer Weissberg embarked on a solo bicycle ride from Baton Rouge to Washington, D.C., to raise awareness of and funds for Back the Blue of Baton Rouge; she began her inspiring journey on Monday, April 30th from Spanish Town Road and Fourth Street in front of the state capitol; she cycled one hundred fifty-five miles her first day and rode each day for fifteen days to her finish line at the National Police Memorial in Washington, D.C., arriving on May 13th for the annual candlelight vigil; and WHEREAS, Officer Weissberg traveled one thousand four hundred sixty-one miles through Biloxi, Mississippi; Pensacola, Florida; Ponce de Leon, Florida; Tallahassee, Florida; Valdosta, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Wilmington, North Carolina; Jacksonville, North Carolina; Murfreesboro, North Carolina; Richmond, Virginia; and Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, Officer Deena Weissberg's goal is to raise twenty thousand dollars for Back the Blue of Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, Officer Weissberg's ride is to honor every law enforcement officer as she knows the pain felt on her ride is nothing compared to the sacrifice of the families of wounded and fallen officers; Brandon Blust, director of Back the Blue of Baton Rouge says of her journey, "We will not forget our heroes and we will continue to honor them". Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 6 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Officer Deena Weissberg of the Baton Rouge Police Department on her dedication to Back the Blue of Baton Rouge and does hereby express support for her admirable campaign to raise funds for and awareness of the needs of law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge.
