HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 11

A RESOLUTION
To commend Leon Dixon, Sr. upon the occasion of his one hundredth birthday.
WHEREAS, membership in the centenarians club is extremely rare, and much honor
is due to those who reach this milestone; and
WHEREAS, on July 27, 2018, Leon Dixon, Sr., will join this exclusive club; Leon
was born in Batchelor, Louisiana, as one of seven children of Napoleon and Ida Green
Dixon; and
WHEREAS, as a young man, Leon joined the United States Army and served this
country with distinction throughout World War II; he became a searchlight commander in
the artillery division, directing five men in scanning the night sky for enemy aircraft; and
WHEREAS, over the course of the war, he served in Africa, Italy, France, Germany,
and Corsica under the command of General Patton; military honors earned by Mr. Dixon
include three Battle Stars; and
WHEREAS, in 1948 Leon Dixon married the former Miss Sedonia Richard, and the
young couple started a home on Moringside Street in New Roads; in the succeeding years,
the Dixon family grew to include nine children as well as grandchildren and great-
grandchildren; the Dixons were married for forty-six years until the passing of Mrs. Dixon;
and
WHEREAS, at one hundred years old, Leon Dixon, Sr., continues to enjoy good
health, thanks in part, no doubt, to the support and blessings of the family that he so lovingly
nurtured, and he remains an active member of Mount Mariah Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Leon Dixon, Sr., on the momentous
occasion of his one hundredth birthday.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Leon Dixon, Sr., upon the occasion of his
one hundredth birthday; does hereby add its hearty congratulations to the celebration of a

full and rich life; and does hereby wish him full measures of health and many happy days
ahead.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Leon Dixon, Sr.
