COMMENDATIONS: Commends award-winning artist Fantasia and welcomes her as the
special guest at the grand opening of the new St. James High School
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend award-winning artist Fantasia and to welcome her as the special guest at the
3 grand opening of the new St. James High School.
4 WHEREAS, more than six hundred children are expected to start at the new St.
5James High School in Vacherie, Louisiana, in August 2018; over $32 million has been
6invested in construction of new classrooms and other buildings for the school; and
7 WHEREAS, the high school faculty and staff are honored to host a celebration
8marking the grand opening of the school, featuring special guest Fantasia; and
9 WHEREAS, since winning the third season of American Idol in 2004, Fantasia has
10sold over three million records and won numerous awards and accolades, including a
11Grammy Award, twelve Grammy nominations, two Billboard Awards, three Image Awards
12from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and two Rhythm and
13Soul Awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers; and
14 WHEREAS, just two months after its release, her debut album, "Free Yourself", sold
15over one million copies and went platinum; Fantasia made her Broadway debut in "The
16Color Purple" in 2007; in 2014, she was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of
17Fame; and
18 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to record for posterity the historic and memorable
19occasion of the grand opening of the new St. James High School in Vacherie and to extend
20a sincere measure of commendation to Fantasia for her special guest performance.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend award-winning artist Fantasia and welcome
3her as the special guest at the grand opening of the new St. James High School; does hereby
4recognize Fantasia for her extraordinary musical talents and achievements; and does hereby
5extend to her best wishes for continued success and happiness in her future endeavors.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
7to Fantasia.
