HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4
BY REPRESENTATIVE BRASS
A RESOLUTION
To commend award-winning artist Fantasia and to welcome her as the special guest at the
grand opening of the new St. James High School.
WHEREAS, more than six hundred children are expected to start at the new St.
James High School in Vacherie, Louisiana, in August 2018; over $32 million has been
invested in construction of new classrooms and other buildings for the school; and
WHEREAS, the high school faculty and staff are honored to host a celebration
marking the grand opening of the school, featuring special guest Fantasia; and
WHEREAS, since winning the third season of American Idol in 2004, Fantasia has
sold over three million records and won numerous awards and accolades, including a
Grammy Award, twelve Grammy nominations, two Billboard Awards, three Image Awards
from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and two Rhythm and
Soul Awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers; and
WHEREAS, just two months after its release, her debut album, "Free Yourself", sold
over one million copies and went platinum; Fantasia made her Broadway debut in "The
Color Purple" in 2007; in 2014, she was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of
Fame; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to record for posterity the historic and memorable
occasion of the grand opening of the new St. James High School in Vacherie and to extend
a sincere measure of commendation to Fantasia for her special guest performance.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend award-winning artist Fantasia and welcome
her as the special guest at the grand opening of the new St. James High School; does hereby
recognize Fantasia for her extraordinary musical talents and achievements; and does hereby
extend to her best wishes for continued success and happiness in her future endeavors.
