2018 Third Extraordinary Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3 BY SENATOR PERRY A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux, World War II veteran and Vermilion Parish police juror, and to remember his many contributions made on behalf of his community, state, and country. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the passing of an extraordinary member of the Greatest Generation, Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux, at age ninety-three, who passed peacefully at his residence on June 6, 2018; and WHEREAS, a native and resident of Abbeville, Louisiana, Pervis Meaux was born on August 27, 1924, to Whitney and Lucille Mouton Meaux; and WHEREAS, at a very early age, he served as a seaman with the Merchant Marines, but as he attained the age of eighteen, he volunteered to serve his country in the United States Army as a mechanic on one of the famed Higgins boats LCM (landing craft mechanical) in the south Pacific, where he lived, worked, and fought in unpleasant conditions during WWII in places such as Borneo and New Guinea, in the name of freedom, duty, honor, and country; and WHEREAS, Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux's character was strengthened by the experience of war, and upon his return to Louisiana, the place that he loved, he resolved to get on with living, to grow, thrive, make a good life for himself, and to be blessed with a family; and WHEREAS, he married Rosalie Richard and they started Pee Wee's Pest Control in Abbeville; and WHEREAS, Pee Wee Meaux was elected to serve the Vermilion Parish community as a police juror and was re-elected to serve several terms; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 3 ENROLLED WHEREAS, he and his wife, Rose, were so proud of their son, Fr. Glenn, who founded and today continues to serve the Catholic Mission in Haiti; and WHEREAS, after fifty-three years, he lost his wife, Rose, to cancer; he then married Ophelia "Fee" Miguez-Meaux and grew to know her family as his own; they were married fourteen years before her death in April 2018; and WHEREAS, he loved and spent much time with his grandchildren; and WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Richard Meaux, and his wife, Ophelia "Fee" Miguez-Meaux; and his parents; and WHEREAS, he is survived by his sister, Laura Meaux Carret; children, the Reverend Glenn Marshall Meaux, and Ginger Meaux Mathy and her husband, Mike; his grandchildren Sam Mathy and Hannah Mathy; stepchildren, Larry Miguez and his wife, Katrina; Marsha Langley and her husband, Leon; Kent Miguez and his wife, Lorene; Steve Miguez and his wife, Tamra; and his stepchildren's families; and WHEREAS, Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux was a quiet man, very small in stature but huge in heart, who cared deeply about those he knew and did all he could to make their lives a little easier; he spent his life being of service to his family, friends, neighbors, community, and country; he will be greatly missed; and his legacy will continue. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux, World War II veteran and Vermilion Parish police juror. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby posthumously recognize the military service of Pervis "Pee Wee" Meaux in the United States Army as a veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater and for his meritorious contributions to the freedom of all citizens of the United States, which shall not be forgotten, and that this acknowledgment reflects his unselfish sacrifice to duty, honor, and country.
