HLS 18RS-1005 ORIGINAL 2018 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 831 BY REPRESENTATIVE REYNOLDS JUDGES/JUSTICE OF PEACE: Provides relative to justices of the peace and constables in Webster Parish 1 AN ACT 2To enact R.S. 13:2622, relative to justices of the peace and constables; to provide for the 3 number of justices of the peace elected in Webster Parish; to provide relative to 4 elections; and to provide for related matters. 5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 13:2622 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง2622. Territorial jurisdiction; Webster Parish justice of the peace courts 8 A. There shall be three justices of the peace elected in Webster Parish from 9 the following districts: 10 (1) One justice of the peace elected from a portion of justice of the peace 11 district one. 12 (2) One justice of the peace elected from a portion of justice of the peace 13 district three. 14 (3) One justice of the peace elected from a portion of justice of the peace 15 district five. 16 B. The districts provided in Subsection A of this Section shall be effective 17 for election purposes with the opening of the qualifying period for the regularly 18 scheduled 2020 primary election for justices of the peace and constables, and the 19 persons elected to the offices of justice of the peace and constable for such justice 20 of the peace courts in Webster Parish at the next regularly scheduled election and Page 1 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions. Present law provides for the election of one constable for each justice of the peace court. Proposed law retains present law. Proposed law authorizes Webster Parish to have a total of three justices of the peace and three constables. Provides for one justice of the peace and one constable elected from each district in Webster Parish (Districts 1, 3, and 5).
