HLS 18RS-555 ORIGINAL 2018 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 91 BY REPRESENTATIVE THIBAUT GAMING: Provides with respect to the designated gaming area of live horse racing facilities 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 27:372(A) and to enact R.S. 27:372(C), relative to slot machine 3 gaming area limitations in live horse racing facilities; to provide for a maximum 4 number of gaming positions authorized within the designated gaming area; to 5 provide for exceptions; to authorize the conducting of gaming tournaments; and to 6 provide for related matters. 7Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 8 Section 1. R.S. 27:372(A) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S. 27:372(C) is 9hereby enacted to read as follows: 10 ยง372. Slot machine gaming area limitations 11 A. The size of the designated gaming area in an eligible facility shall not 12 exceed fifteen thousand square feet contain more than one thousand seven hundred 13 thirty-five gaming positions, except as provided in Subsection C of this Section. 14 * * * 15 C. In addition to the limitations set forth in Subsection A of this Section, an 16 eligible facility may conduct up to five tournaments per year of no more than 17 fourteen days in length for each tournament. A tournament as provided for in this 18 Subsection may be conducted within the designated gaming area or outside of the 19 designated gaming area of the eligible facility. [R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 91 Original 2018 Regular Session Thibaut Abstract: Changes the basis of limitations on the size of gaming areas in live horse racing facilities from square footage to number of gaming positions. Present law provides for the conducting and regulation of slot machine gaming at eligible live horse racing facilities. Present law provides that the size of a designated gaming area of an eligible gaming facility shall not exceed 15,000 square feet. Proposed law changes present law to provide that the size of a designated gaming area of an eligible gaming facility shall not contain more than 1,735 gaming positions. Proposed law further provides that an eligible facility may conduct up to five tournaments per year of no more than 14 days in length for each tournament. The tournament may be conducted outside of the designated gaming area and the gaming positions used in the tournament shall not be counted against the maximum 1,735 gaming positions.
