HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 137
BY REPRESENTATIVE FOIL
A RESOLUTION
To commend The Dunham School boys' basketball team upon winning the 2018 Louisiana
High School Athletic Association Division III state championship.
WHEREAS, in a nail-biting end to the title game played on Saturday, March 10,
2018, at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, second seed The Dunham School boys'
basketball team held on to win 49-48 and take its first state championship in twenty years;
and
WHEREAS, with time running out, guard Jordan Wright made a go-ahead shot
amidst a sea of Episcopal defenders to bring the score to 49-47 in favor of The Dunham
School Tigers, and in a moment of exhilaration, a wave of Tiger players rushed onto the
court, but 0.5 seconds remained on the clock and The Dunham School Tigers were assessed
a technical foul; opponent Episcopal went to the free throw line but connected on only the
first free throw, and when the second shot came off the rim, the defense of The Dunham
Tigers prevented any further scoring from their opponents; and
WHEREAS, Jordan Wright led all scorers with 25 points and was named Most
Valuable Player in the title game; the Tigers completed a successful season with a wins-
losses record of 26-7 and a spotless District 8-2A record of 6-0; Head Coach Jonathan
Pixley, assistant coaches Chad Myers and T.J. Honore, and the dedication of the players
have brought the LHSAA Division III trophy to The Dunham School, and its championship
team members are all worthy of mention: seniors Mason Bourgeois and Oddyst Walker;
juniors Ralph Davenport, Ty Spurlock, and Jordan Wright; sophomores Josh Hardy and
Salle Wilson; freshmen Chase Augustus, Jase Augustus, Henry Hays, Jon Melara, Jordy
Melara, Becket Pricer, and Carlos Stewart; and eighth grader John Walker McDonald; and

WHEREAS, Coach Pixley has instilled an ethic of winning in these fine young men
and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills that have led to success both on and
off the court for The Dunham School Tigers; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Tigers have
earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the most
difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to team
members and the coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown while
achieving the highest state boys' basketball honor possible for The Dunham School.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate the athletes and coaches of The Dunham School boys' basketball
team for winning the 2018 Division III Louisiana High School Athletic Association
basketball championship and completing a truly spectacular season and does hereby
recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor they have brought to
their school and community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Head Coach Jonathan Pixley.
