HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 17
BY REPRESENTATIVE JEFFERSON
A RESOLUTION
To recognize and commend the players, coaches, and managers of the Simsboro High
School boys' basketball team upon winning the 2018 Class B championship.
WHEREAS, the top seeded Simsboro Tigers were victorious in front of an eager
crowd in a thrilling 67-50 victory over the Zwolle Hawks to capture their first Class B
championship on Saturday, March 10, 2018; the team's last state title was in 1975, in
Class C; and
WHEREAS, the all-star lineup that led the team to the win in the final game included
sophomore Jakemin Abney with 17 points and 11 rebounds, giving him a double-double,
sophomore Kalep Crane, who scored in double figures with 14 points, senior Dee
Levingston, who scored 10 points in his final game as a Simsboro Tiger, and junior Gianni
Nelson, who led the team to triumph with a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds and who
was named the game's MVP after finishing 6-of-13 from the field and 13-of-16 at the free
throw line; and
WHEREAS, Jakemin Abney, Miquiel Carter, Jamarion Cato, Kalep Crane, Jordan
Crawford, Ahmad Gipson-Jackson, Deonte Levingston, Nick Maryland, Gianni Nelson,
Kelveon Oultley, BraxtonTaylor, Reggie Tyler of the Simsboro High School boys' basketball
team, under the tutelage of Head Coach Josh Brown and assistant coaches Michael Black,
Jeremy Hattaway, Kyle Kavanaugh, and Keaston Walker, and manager Michael Morris,
performed admirably during the 2017-2018 season, concluding this season with a sterling
record of thirty-six wins and a mere two losses and their first title in forty-three years; and
WHEREAS, all players contributed immensely to the team's championship season;
and the team's outstanding 2017-2018 season upholds the glorious tradition of the Tigers,
and all Simsboro High School alumni and fans recognize the immense pride and
distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and state.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its tribute to the Simsboro High School boys'
basketball team for an outstanding season that, through dedication, sacrifice, discipline, and
sportsmanship, concluded in Simsboro High School winning the Class B boys' basketball
state championship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Head Coach Josh Brown.
